ShivShakti

This year Hindu Heritage Day will have the theme of ShivShakti. Shivam as the male core, the powerhouse, the intense yet still being; and Shakti as the female energy emanating from this core – the illusion, the brilliant light. The interplay of stillness and vibrant action, of strength and beauty, of power and grace; of white purity turning into vivid colors. The contrast between the calm emotion-free state, and the highs and lows of joy and despair, laughter and tears.

There are several forms that represent this concept. Ardhanarishwara,  half-Shivam and half-Shakti, is one such. Shiva most often represents the male power and intensity, with Sati and Parvati representing Shakti. Some say Shiva is the constant factor while Shakti is represented by various female creative or destructive forces such as Prakriti, Bhavani, Durga.
